Special Olympics Addison County Named Program of the Year!


Special Olympics Addison County received the 2008 Program of the Year award at the Special Olympics VT annual awards dinner on Saturday, March 21.

Congratualations to all of the athletes, volunteers, friends and family who make our program as wonderful as it is.

Tammie Brings Home the Gold!


Tammie Masteare recently represented Vermont in the 2009 Special Olympics World Winter Games. Tammie qualified for the World Games after winning a gold medal in the 1K Cross Country skiing event at the 2008 Winter Games in Woodstock. She continued her winning streak bringing home a gold medal in the 500m event. She also earned a fourth place ribbon in the 4X1K relay and placed fifth in the 1K freestyle.

From February 6-13, nearly 3,000 athletes from 85 countries competed in seven Olympic-type sports: Alpine skiing, cross-country skiing, figure skating, floor hockey, snowboarding, snowshoeing, and speed skating. Held in the spectacular mountains of Boise and Sun Valley, Idaho, the 2009 World Games was the largest World Winter Games in the history of the movement.

Team Bowling Tournament

Congratulations to all of the bowlers who participated in the 2009 Team bowling tournament in Berlin, VT on Sunday, January 25.

Nelson Audy, Terrence D’Avignon, Andy Douglas, Mitchell Greene, Matthew LaFountain, John Miniter, Wayman Norton, Joanne O’Bryan, Jordon Oldenbburg, Brian Pariseau, Tori Spear, Dan Stokes, Bruce Swan, Ginger Swan, Steve Welsh, Rachel Wollum and Renee Zalubski all did a terrific job.

Unified partners also helped to round out Addison teams. A unified partner is a person without developmental disabilities that participates on a team with Special Olympic athletes. Addison County unified bowling partners included Jason Krans, Jeff Ladd and Amy Rachon.
